Ambassadorial Scholarships are now Global Grant Scholarships

Thank you for your interest in the Ambassadorial Scholarship program, which is evolving into the Global Grant Scholarship program.  District 5930 selected our Ambassadorial Scholar for 2012-13 in June, and there are no Ambassadorial Scholarships after school year 2012-13.  A decision has not been made by our District for school year 2013-14, because the final rules and programs have not been promulgated by the Rotary Foundation.  However, we anticipate that our District will sponsor one Global Grant Scholar for school year 2013-14.

The applicant will need to have an educational background and proposed graduate course of study in one of the six “Focus Areas.”  These include:  peace and conflict prevention/resolution, disease prevention and treatment, water and sanitation, maternal and child health, basic education and literacy, or economic and community development.  The scholarship will be for graduate study only, and it will be awarded for a term of at least one year.  Hopefully, application forms will be available by next spring or early summer, with interviews probably in fall of 2012.

The prospective scholar must provide proof of university admission with the application, as well as proof of language test results to certify the student’s abilities if a language other than the native tongue is spoken at the chosen institution.  The scholar’s academic and professional goals must further the goals of his or her selected area of focus.  Additionally, the scholar must identify and budget for an international service project within the selected area of focus to be completed in the host district during the term of international study.

We may become aware of additional requirements as the pilot districts provide feedback to the Rotary Foundation, but the information above gives a general overview of the Global Grant Scholarship program as it stands now.  Please follow up with us next spring, to find out if the application forms are available at that point and what the timeline is for submittal.  Any interested students may research the opportunity between now and then by investigating the links below.
