“December is Disease Prevention and Treatment Month”

Rotary All Stars President Rose, Rotary Club Columbia Metro (2015) is my inspiration for this months Governor’s newsletter. She reminds us that during the month of December, all around the globe, peoples of nearly every race, nation, culture and faith will celebrate. Some will feast and dance and sing songs.  Some will make sacrifices, undertake journeys, and offer special prayers.    . . .

December’s holidays present us as Rotarians an amazing array of multicultural lessons. Let’s not let December 2016 pass by without taking this opportunity to promote goodwill and better understanding by learning about a holiday that is “foreign” to us. Looking for a place to start?  Here is one possibility:  multicultural teachable moments. <http://www.educationworld.com/a_lesson/lesson/lesson246.shtml>

President Rose goes on to say, with this plethora of holidays and celebrations decorating December with gifts and feasts and an assortment of rich traditions—why has Rotary International asked us to focus our attention on Disease Prevention and Treatment?  I agree with her that it might have everything to do with a simple four-letter word: HOPE.

Disease robs individuals and communities of both vitality and hope; and yet, Rotarians all around the world have plans to give communities struggling in the face of disease “hope and a future.”

Be a part of those well laid plans. Add Rotary’s Annual Fund to your gift list. Annual Fund gifts are gifts of HOPE; and you can give them in honor of the loved ones in your life.

As you immerse yourself in the December traditions that you cherish and enjoy, may you collect blessings as numerous as the stars.
