Change and start of the new Rotary year

The new Rotary Year is upon us, whether you are the President, Past President, Past District Governor or just a regular “run of the mill” Rotarian, like me the “First Dude”, change is upon us.

I know around the Highs, we have been preparing

for more than two years.  There have been thousands of hours of training and preparations, which lead to great opportunities for Governor Debbie and I.   We have gotten to meet many of the 2000 members of South Texas Rotary District 5930, but we welcome the opportunity to meet many more of you.  The wonderful activities and projects throughout our fantastic District always lift us physically and emotionally.

 “For last year’s words belong to last year’s language
And next year’s words await another voice
And to make an end is to make a beginning.”
- TS Eliot

For many of us, July 1st is not the beginning, but rather it is a continuation.  We are in Rotary because Rotary provides us with opportunities for “Serve Above Self” while having fellowship, fun and networking. This year’s District 5930’s and Rotary International’s themes “Fly High with Rotary Serving Humanity” seems to have been custom made for us.

“Toto, I have a feeling we're not in Kansas anymore.”
L. Frank Baum

Debbie has repeatedly stated, “It is her privilege to serve you as the District Governor during YOUR upcoming Rotary year.  However, I have heard her slip up saying, “My year”, once or twice.  A fine should be accessed in the event it happens in your hearing.  The fine is payable to PolioPlus.

Hopefully, at the end of this Rotary year the paraphrased words of wisdom, provided by Mae West, will apply:

 “All discarded District Governors should be given a second chance, but with another title.”

Debbie has assembled an outstanding leadership team.  The AGs have already begun to assist clubs in their areas.  The LTGs for Public Image, Membership and Youth will continue to provide excellent leadership.  The Foundation Chair is all charged up for the Foundation’s 100th anniversary celebration.

The Club Presidents of Rotary District 5930 are motivated, prepared and ready to lead.  Most importantly, all of the rest of us (regular Rotarians) are excited about the year and its possibilities.

Life is good!
Yours in Rotary;

Joe (First Dude)
