Season’s Greetings to All!

I am Mike Dickerson, Lieutenant Governor for Youth Services for District 5930. For those of you who know me, you won't be surprised that I have come up with a wild and fun idea to raise funds for a cause, we as Rotarians, hold dear to our hearts. And this time, I have managed to convince some of my fellow Laredo Rotary Club members to consider joining me! We hope you will too.

Fellow Rotarians, I am EXCITED to announce that we will be rolling out a Motorcycle Ride around District 5930 to raise funds and awareness to support Rotary International’s END POLIO NOW campaign. We will start on SATURDAY, MARCH 25th in LAREDO, TEXAS.

We will ride a southerly route down to Falfurias, Rio Grande City, Edinburg, McAllen, and Brownsville. Turning north, through Kingsville and ending the day in Corpus Christi.

SUNDAY, MARCH 26th we will continue north to Portland, Rockport, Port Lavaca, Ganado, Edna and Victoria, making our way back to Alice and Freer to Laredo to complete the ride. The total ride will be over 650 miles.

We need your help. We are looking for sponsorships and donations to the Rotary Foundation for END POLIO NOW. It is our intent for this to be a District 5930 fundraiser.

I would challenge all the clubs to see who can contribute the most to this project.

We will be setting up an online payment system for your convenience. Our goal is to raise $5,000 for END POLIO NOW on behalf of District 5930. We will have a live tally so see where we are on reaching our goal.

Here are other ways your club can help.

  • Have Rotoract and Interact clubs do a fundraiser and schedule a quick photo opportunity and fellowship along the ride.
  • Makes for a great Rotary image boost in your neck of the woods to post that visual on your social media platforms as well!
  • If you can let me know where would be a convenient place to stop and gather with your area clubs for that photo opportunity, please reach out to me right away.
  • At the gatherings, there will be an opportunity to collect the checks from those supporting the ride.
  • Also, this would be a time for anyone who wants to join a stretch of the ride, they can, and then celebrate it on your preferred social media platform.
  • Remember we want to raise funds, but also awareness.
  • Tips on best places for coffee, snacks and meals along the way will also be appreciated.

Lastly, if you want to join us on this ride, let me know, so we can take care of the legal stuff. We don't discriminate on the number of wheels you use. Classic cars and trikes are perfectly fine.

We want to draw attention to our cause, so the more impressions we can make for END POLIO NOW and Rotary, the better.

WE ARE THIS CLOSE! I know those who receive the life changing polio vaccine all around the world can count on my fellow Rotarians of District 5930 to come together and make a real change in the spirit of fellowship and FUN.
