Laredo Next Generation RotaRun is planned for August 29th

The Laredo Next Generation Rotary Club will be hosting their seventh annual RotaRun at North Central Park in conjunction with the City of Laredo Parks and Recreation Department on August 29th, 2015. RotaRun is one of our "Signature Events" in that it is both a Service Project to our Laredo community, by helping to "Fight Disease" by encouraging healthy living in our community, it is also a one of our major fundraisers that we use to leverage our other Service Projects throughout the year. In years past, over 200 participants have joined our club for this early morning run, 10 K or 5k, or 1 mile walk throughout the park; where we as a club have built one of the many community parks.

Pre-registration is currently underway at rotarun2015.eventbrite.com and the first 100 runners to register online will receive a dry fit tee. Packet pick up is scheduled for August 28th at Johnny Carino’s where registered runners will enjoy a free pasta dinner to get ready for the run. Registration will be available there and on-site the morning of the race.

Sponsorship opportunities are also available; please contact Clarissa Moncivais 956-319-8549 or Roger Rocha Jr 956-286-3333 for more information. All proceeds from the event benefit the Laredo Next Generation Rotary Club Service Projects. More information is at: Laredo Next Generation Rotary

Rotary Club of Chorpus Christi Helps The Salvation Army with Annual Longhorn BBQ Cook-off

August 5, 2015

Lysa Chapman
Rotary Club of Corpus Christi
418 Peoples St Ste 300
Corpus Christi, TX 78401

Dear Lysa,

The Salvation Army of Corpus Christi hosted its 1st Annual Longhorn BBQ Cook-off on July 25, 2015. All proceeds from the BBQ Cook Off benefited The Salvation Army Culinary Arts Program – an eight-week, hands-on program providing local participants with the necessary skills needed to succeed in the culinary industry. Upon completion, the program helps place graduates in full-time culinary positions within the community.

The Lonestar Barbeque Society sanctioned event welcomed several teams from the Coastal Bend and around the State to participate in a friendly grilling competition. Cook-off participants fired-up their BBQ pits on Friday to begin smoking their briskets and submitted their best brisket, chicken, ribs and beans for judging on Saturday.

We would like to say a special Thank you to the Rotary Club of Corpus Christi for supporting us with so many volunteers for the event. Rotarians helped register BBQ teams, sold concessions and door prize tickets, and served as judges for the individual meat categories. Volunteers are critical partners who help fulfill The Salvation Army’s promise of “Doing the Most Good”. The Rotary Club of Corpus Christi has shown their humanitarian spirit and commitment to support the community time and time again. Whether it is Bell Ringing at our kettles during Christmas, a renovation workday at our Family Thrift Store, or painting classrooms at our Community Center, The Salvation Army can always count on Rotary. We couldn’t do it without the support of community partners like the Rotary Club of Corpus Christi.

Blessings,

Major Terry Ray
Commanding Officer

Induction Ceremony the Rotary Club of Aransas Pass

August 7, 2015

On Tuesday evening, July 28, 2015 the Rotary Club of Aransas Pass awarded a Paul Harris Fellow Award to a surprised Peggy Yeager. Peggy is the first Non-Rotarian to receive this award in Aransas Pass.

The Paul Harris Fellowship is named for Paul Harris, who founded Rotary with three business associates in Chicago in 1905. The Fellowship was established in his honor in 1957 to express appreciation for a contribution of US$1,000 to the humanitarian and educational programs of The Rotary Foundation. Those programs include an array of projects that save and invigorate the lives of people around the world and enhance international friendship and understanding. Foundation programs provide educational opportunities, food, potable water, health care, immunizations, and shelter for millions of persons. These activities are funded, implemented and managed by Rotarians and Rotary clubs around the globe. Rotarians also designate a Paul Harris Fellow to recognize another person whose life demonstrates a shared purpose with the objectives and mission of The Rotary Foundation to build world understanding and peace.

Peggy Yeager was selected to receive this recognition because Rotary Club of Aransas Pass believes that her life exemplifies the humanitarian and educational objectives of The Rotary Foundation. This Award thanked Peggy for demonstrating in her life and vocation a commitment to helping persons in need here and around the world. We also recognized Peggy’s valuable contributions of time, energy, and money to the Rotary Club of Aransas Pass.

The certificate presented stated that Peggy has been named a Paul Harris Fellow, “in appreciation of tangible and significant assistance given for the furtherance of better understanding and friendly relations between peoples of the world.”
