As we go into the busy Holiday season,
I want to wish the Rotarians of District 5930 Happy Holidays! It’s a time to be with family and celebrate the successes of the last year. For many of us our Rotary friends are a big part of our family. And we are all part of the Family of Rotary. In this newsletter article I want to remind you of several events we are gearing up for as we start the New Year.
On January 18 we will offer Rotary Leadership Institute Sessions 1 and 2. This is a great opportunity for upcoming club leaders as well as new Rotarians
to learn the depth and breadth of Rotary. Registration for both sessions is open now on the District website.
On February 8 in Harlingen we will celebrate and recognize the individual and club contributions our District made to the Foundation in the 2018-19 Rotary year. If your club is going to receive an award you will be notified and we want to see you there to receive your recognition! We are also going to offer reserved tables for clubs so you can all sit together. We are excited that Suzi Howe, our Zone Rotary International Director Elect, will be the keynote speaker for this event. This event will be the first Rotary event at the beautiful new Harlingen Convention Center. Registration for this event is available now.
For club presidents-elects and presidents nominees you need to plan to attend PETS (President’s Elect Training Seminar) in Dallas on Feb 27-Mar 1, 2020. This required training will be conducted with the leadership of District Governor Elect Eddie Bartnesky and his team. The training you receive as well as the ability to network with fellow present and future leaders from across Texas will be invaluable to assist you prepare to take the helm on July 1, 2020.
It seems like a long time away but we are actively planning for the District Conference to be held in Corpus Christi on May 1-3, 2020. We will start off with the all club luncheon on Friday May 1. Then, you won’t want to miss the awesome event to be held at the Texas State Aquarium that evening. More details will come soon but mark your calendars now!
Your District Strategic Planning team is developing the foundation for a vision statement and plan for the future that will involve all Rotarians in the District. Very soon we will sending out two surveys. One will be for all Rotarians District-wide so that we can get a pulse of perceptions of our members overall. Another survey will be directed at club and District leadership with the intention of aligning District strategic priorities with club’s priorities. The intent of this approach is to look at visioning and strategic planning with the wants, needs and vision of the Rotarians in the District in mind.
Disease Prevention and Treatment is the theme Rotary has designated for the month of December. There is much Rotarians are working on in this area through Rotary Foundation Global Grants around the world. Of course Rotary’s signature project related to disease prevention is the eradication of polio worldwide. We have made great strides over the last 30 plus years toward that end but there is much work yet to be done to rid the earth of this dreaded disease. Please continue to keep End Polio Now as a focus.
Finally, I want to report I have completed all 51 of my visits to clubs in the District. It was a whirlwind of travel and meetings but I want to thanks all who were involved in making these visits a success, especially the assistant governors. If you would like me to attend any of your upcoming club events and fundraisers please let me know and I will be glad to attend if I can.
Again, I wish you all a wonderful Holiday season.
