Subject: USDA Emergency Meals To You Opportunity for Eligible Rural School District
Good morning _____________________.  I want to share some good news especially during these unprecedented times as we “Shelter in Place” as a precautionary measure to mitigate the threat and/or spread of the Corona Virus.

An initiative is underway to mail emergency Meals To You (eMTY) to families with children in need who reside in rural areas (ie. most all of South Texas).

This emergency food nutrition and security program is facilitated by Baylor University in partnership with the Texas Department of Agriculture and the USDA for eligible rural school districts in our area(s).

If your school district is interested in learning more about this program, please review the eligibility requirements and complete the application(s) via the link: www.hungerandpoverty.org

Also, please review the additional attachments below.

USDA has announced an emergency feeding program for children whose schools are closed.  See attached. The program is “Meals to You” and a box of 10 breakfasts and 10 lunches (shelf-stable canned fruits and vegetables, rice, beans, cereal, etc) can be shipped to each child in a school district during the COVID-19 emergency – every two weeks.

Once approved by the Texas Department of Agriculture, the ready made box meals will be mailed directly to families with children that you and your administrative staff identify/select at no cost to your school district!

If you would like more information or have any further questions you may contact Dr. Elaine Hernandez, Baylor University Regional Director of South Texas who is also serving as president of the Mission Rotary Club.

Thank you in advance for your time and attention in this endeavor.

Respectfully yours,
