The District Advisory Committee has nominated Dr. Zehra Surani to be Governor of District 5930 for the Rotary Year 2024-2025.

Dr. Zehra Surani (Dr. Z) is a proud member of the Rotary Club of Southside Corpus Christi, currently serving as Club President for 2021-2022. She is a Paul Harris Fellow, a faculty member of the Rotary Leadership Institute and the Chair of the District 5930 International Vision Facilitation Council (Visioning). 
 
Zehra has a Ph.D. in Organizational Psychology and specializes in health care and decision-making. She has extensive experience working in community mobilization, community outreach, and community service in cross-cultural contexts. She is Chair of the Education Committee for the Nueces County Opioid Task Force, and the past Chair of both The Purple Door (Women's Shelter of South Texas) and CCISD's School Health Advisory Committee (SHAC). She is a dedicated and service-driven professional with cross-sector experience in non-profit management, fundraising, grant-writing, strategic planning, training facilitation, and qualitative research. Dr. Z co-founded the It's Your Life Foundation with her husband, Dr. Salim Surani, in 2006, and has directed and implemented numerous programs for improving the health of the community. They have developed programs that focus on anti-tobacco/anti-vaping education, diabetes prevention, & mental health awareness-for more than 150,000 students in South Texas. 
For her humanitarian efforts & community service, she has received several awards, accolades, and recognitions included, but not limited to, the John P. McGovern Award by Texas Medical Association Foundation, the American College of Chest Physicians Humanitarian Award, the Ready or Not Foundation Community Leader Award, the Health Promotion Award by Texas Cardiovascular and Stroke Prevention and a State of Texas Certificate of Resolution for Excellence in Community Service. 
 
 
14.020.8. Challenging Candidates
Any club in the district which has been in existence for at least one year as of the beginning of that year may also propose a challenging candidate for governor-nominee provided this club has previously suggested such candidate to the nominating committee. A club in existence for less than one year as of the beginning of that year may propose a challenging candidate provided such candidate is a member of that club and the challenging candidate must have been duly suggested to the nominating committee. The name of the challenging candidate shall be submitted pursuant to a resolution by the club adopted at a regular meeting. The club must file the resolution with the governor by the date determined by the governor. Such date shall be not more than 14 days after publication of the announcement of the selection for governor-nominee by the governor.
