November 2023
District Governor's Message
Dear Rotary District 5930 Rotarians,
I have visited 28 out of 50 clubs in our district. I am slowly inching my way to the north & coastal regions and am looking forward to visiting the Corpus Christi area the first 3 days in November.

The month of October was busy, but impactful! We had a very successful and well-attended District 5930 One Summit at Del Mar College on Saturday, October 14th, the day of the solar eclipse. It was certainly a day to remember! We learned not to work in silos and gained a better understanding of how Membership, Public Image, and the Rotary Foundation work together. I want to thank all Rotarians that attended, especially Kathy Preddy our Facilitator/Trainer and Dr. Zehra Surani our District Governor Elect for coordinating the event.

Quick reminder to have all of your clubs’ goals entered in the system and that you have an Action Plan.  Reach out to your Assistant Governor if you need help or if you have any questions.

The Rotary theme for November is Rotary Foundation Month.

Here is a message from our Lt. Governor of Foundation Eddie Bartnesky:

November is Rotary Foundation Month – Here’s why!
Each year, Rotary International highlights November as Rotary Foundation Month to emphasize the importance of and need for Rotarian support of The Rotary Foundation.
Contributions from Rotarians around the world go to the Foundation’s Annual Programs Fund, which provides grants and awards through Foundation programs; and the Permanent Fund, an endowment from which only the earnings are spent in support of Foundation programs, ensuring the long-term viability of the Foundation.
Every dollar contributed by Rotarians funds humanitarian and educational programs and program operations. Clubs and districts apply for and receive Foundation grants to carry out worthy projects worldwide, like our District’s efforts with the Ukraine Disaster Response Grant.

If Rotary is to be there to teach children to read, build wells, feed the hungry, are for the sick, shelter the poor; then Every Rotarian is invited and encouraged to support the Annual Fund with a personal contribution, Every Year.

Examples of how your investment in the Rotary Foundation makes a difference: * $100 per year helps Rotary provide three backpacks filled with supplies for primary school children in Honduras; fifty malaria diagnostic tests to prevent, diagnose and treat malaria in Mali; and one biosand filter and water-hygiene training for a family in Peru. * $1,000 per year helps Rotary provide 14 HIV antiretroviral drugs to prevent the transmission of HIV from infected mothers to their babies in Liberia; one bicycle to play sports for youth with disabilities in France; and sexual assault and domestic abuse education for young women in Texas.

How can I make a gift in support of the Rotary Foundation? Visit the Rotary International website www.rotary.org to make your gift: one-time, regular/sustaining (recurring gift at the timing of your choice), to the program area of your choice – all of the foundation is there for you to choose what would be most meaningful to you.  Or you may contact your District Foundation Chair, Eddie Bartnesky, for more information.
Let’s meet our yearly challenge by 100% of Clubs setting and accomplishing Club Foundation Goals and setting the standard for every year to follow.

Also, October 30th – November 5th is World Interact Week. Let’s support, maintain, and create new Interact clubs. They are the future of Rotary!

My fellow Rotarians, keep up the great work, and let’s continue to develop and create vibrant clubs to Create Hope in the World with Passion and Compassion.
.

Respectfully yours,

Luis Cavazos
Rotary District Governor
2023-2024

People of Action helps define Rotary for those who don’t know us. We’re professional, community, and civic leaders who connect with each other and who share a unique perspective and passion for taking action to improve the world. Describing and showing ourselves as people of action creates a personal connection to Rotary and emphasizes the impact we make in our communities.
