From District Governor
We have just completed two import meetings that set a course ahead for our District and your Club!
Soon to be announced pending a review period for your current Presidents is the pending announcement of our selection of the 2025-2026 District Governor. We are very excited about the selection which should be revealed in the next week.
In addition DGE, Luis Cavazos headed up our delegation to this year’s Lone Star PETS (President Elect Training Seminar). I will let him tell you all about the excitement and direction he set for District 5930 beginning with his installation in late June. Your President Elect is returning to set plans for next year. Be sure to help them continue your club’s success!
Finally, we are deep into this year’s planning for the April 29, 2023 combined District Conference and Assembly. The design so far is to begin with a special Foundation Grant Training on Friday afternoon followed by a joint Fellowship Reception with our Northern Cousins from North Austin (District 5870) and their DG Sharron Coleman just down the street from the Omni (700 N Shoreline, CC) at the Holiday Inn CC Downtown Marina( 707 Shoreline). Then if you are hungry, we will again gather at Brewster Street Ice House (under the Bay Bridge – a short drive to 1725 N Tancahua Street, CC).
Saturday morning, at the Omni Hotel, rise early to begin the Assembly for a General Welcome from DGE Luis Cavazos and select from several breakout rooms to help you prepare for your assignment in 2023-2024.
The District 4-Way Test will also be hearing from all the attending Rotary Club Champions from our 13 Areas.
Then we all gather back together for lunch to hear from the District 4-Way Test Champion and enjoy a buffet meal together. There will also be moments shared from Interact advisor, Luis Gonzales's event on Rotary Club Leader development for building strong Interact Clubs.  Mr. Gonzales is from the Rotary Club of Los Fresnos. You need to hear how Mr. Gonzales hurds together his 185 or is it 200 Interactors!! We will also hear from a Global Grant Scholar and Costa Rica Medical Brigade member Garza introduced by our Foundation Scholarship Chair Christine Amaka Udeani.
We will hold our Annual District Business Meeting at 2:30 pm with a once every 3-year review and election of our District Representative to the Council of Legislation (COL). PDG Art Zeitler, a 6 year veteran in the position, will review the role and recent information of the ”COL” and PDG Debbie High will conduct the election of our new Representative. We also will hear from the Budget Review Committee the results for DG Amando Chapa’s year (it was a GOOD One! And follow up with other business that is presented).

They have planned a reception of all Major Donors a little later and a General Fellowship Gathering prior to our District Conference Awards Banquet starting at 7 pm. Jack Alspaugh will MC the Dinner and a significant recognition by Club Legacies will be presented by decades:
Our Ten Founding Clubs – by the end of this Rotary Year are you a member of a Centennial Rotary Club?
A Roaring Twenties Rotary Club; An Amazing Group of Clubs Founded in the Great Depression?

Dr. Gonzalo Salazar, Rotary Club of Los Fresnos, will be our Keynote Speaker. He did a wonderful presentation on Leadership Style and Motivation at our Los Fresnos Assembly using illustrations from “Searching for Nemo”. Promote the power of vaccines for
World Immunization Week this April
With decades of experience in polio eradication, Rotary members play a key role in publicizing the power of vaccines. In part because Rotary members and partners have worked so hard to counteract vaccine hesitancy and reach all children with the polio vaccine, we’ve immunized billions of children against the disease.

World Immunization Week, 24-30 April, is an opportunity for Rotary and Rotaract clubs to spread the message that vaccines save lives. It’s critical to continue polio vaccinations for children around the world and to advocate for COVID-19 vaccinations for all.
#RotaryResponds
From now until 31 March, all donations to The #Rotary Foundation's Disaster Response Fund will be used to aid Turkey-Syria earthquake relief projects.
The 2023 President Elects Training Seminar - P.E.T.S. was a complete success. It was a magical human experience. We learned Rotary Best Practices and how to maintain, create, and transform clubs to vibrancy. For some Rotarians, for the first time, they witnessed how big the Rotary is. For the plenary sessions, there were over 900 Rotarians each time we met to share breakfast, lunch, and dinner with amazing motivational speakers. On Saturday evening, we heard from Rotary International President-Elect, Gordon R.  McInally that provide us with his vision and priorities for the coming year.  There were 10 Rotary Districts represented from Texas and several from Oklahoma. I want to extend my gratitude to all attendees including Facilitators, Club President Elects, Club President Nominees, Satellite Chairs, and Assistant Governors. A special thank you goes to our District Governor, Kent for facilitating and for his utmost support. My hope is that club Presidents continue to promote Lone Star PETS for years to come.

Luis Cavazos
2023/2024 District Governor Elect
People of Action helps define Rotary for those who don’t know us. We’re professional, community, and civic leaders who connect with each other and who share a unique perspective and passion for taking action to improve the world. Describing and showing ourselves as people of action creates a personal connection to Rotary and emphasizes the impact we make in our communities.
