As you are all aware we are now in the midst of the COVID19 pandemic. We as a District must take this seriously. We as a nation have been asked to avoid gathering in large groups and to observe social distancing in order to help quell the spread of this virus. Although online meetings are becoming more popular; unfortunately, most of our interactions today as Rotarians are still face to face.

As your District Governor and on behalf of your District 5930 Advisory Committee and at the direction of RI President Mark Maloney, we would suggest you cancel your club meetings for the short term. It is possible that you could alternatively hold meetings online using video conferencing and the District would be willing to help you with that. If your club has fundraisers planned over the next month we would further suggest you postpone them to a future date.

Here is an update on currently scheduled District events:
  • Rotary Polio Moto Ride scheduled for next weekend will be postponed.
  • Grants Training planned for April 4 will be canceled.
  • Rotary Leadership Institute planned for April 18 will be postponed.
  • The District Conference and Texas State Aquarium events planned for May 1 – 3 are still a go, depending on how the situation evolves. We are working with the Omni and Aquarium to make sure they are going to take measures to ensure your safety.
  • The District Assembly planned for May 16 at Texas A&M Kingsville is also still on.
  • For the area & club 4 Way Test Contests, if it has not already been held in your area/club, we are encouraging you to hold those after April 18.
This is a fluid situation. Things can change literally minute to minute. We will do our best to keep you informed and up to date as this evolves.

As Rotarians we are Rooted in Service. If unique service opportunities are presented to you or your club during this uncertain time I hope you will take advantage of them. Thank you for your understanding in this matter.

In Rotary Service,

Ellison Crider
District Governor, 2019-20
Rotary District 5930
